The use of artificial intelligence as a tool in sentencing and the extent to which AI can interact with the exercise of judicial discretion is an emerging area that merits further consideration. These matters form the focus of the Sentencing Conference 2022, as do the perennial issues of sentencing considerations and options peculiar to special classes of offenders such as youths and those afflicted with mental health issues.
