Gary Born will examine the historical rise of international arbitration, review its current state & recent developments in the field, ending with a prognosis for the future of international arbitration. He will discuss how & why international arbitration has been used in widely diverse cultures, regions and times, the criticisms made of some forms of arbitration in recent years and explore the parallels between these criticisms & past criticisms of international law and adjudicatory mechanisms.
