Event Outline

The Arbitration Act 1996 aimed to support arbitration by allowing parties to refer disputes to it, with courts intervening only in exceptional cases. Section 69 allowed appeals on points of law, but misuse has been observed. English courts maintain a high threshold for successful appeals, and the decision not to reform s 69 in the new Arbitration Act 2025 reinforces arbitration's efficiency while preserving courts' role in legal accuracy.
