Event Outline

This event is organised by National University of Singapore, Centre for International Law. Since the time of Hugo Grotius, freedom of the seas has been based on freedom of navigation, supporting trade, control of goods, and expansion. Today, it remains central under UNCLOS Article 87, but faces challenges both within and outside the law of the sea framework. This presentation examines these challenges and proposes ways to strengthen navigation freedoms while balancing broader international interests.
