The interpretation of charterers' rights under the 1976 Limitation of Maritime Claims Convention has been debated in English courts for nearly twenty years, beginning with the 1998 case The Aegean Sea and concluding with the 2025 Supreme Court case The Flaminia (No 2). While English law's position appears established, questions remain about its adequacy and whether other jurisdictions should adopt the English courts' approach.
